Keep make-up simple
In summer, I do always think less is more – in the sunshine you can see everything. So I don’t really use foundation. I use a little bit of Bobbi Brown concealer under my eyes and I love Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze and Glow – I don’t think there’s anything out there that’s like it. I also use her Beach Stick in Ibiza on my eyelids and under my eyes, it’s a good brown. I really like Chanel’s Inimitable mascara – I think it’s the best one. And then Rodial for their beigey lipsticks, there’s one I like called Bite. I apply all my make-up with my hands, I’m not really into brushes.
Perfect your summer skincare regime (and use an SPF)
In the morning and in the evening I use an enzyme face wash by MBR which is a German brand I’m completely obsessed with. Then I use Skinceuticals – the C E Ferulic serum and then the Hydrating B5 Gel, which I mix in my hand with a little bit of Heliocare tinted SPF 50 which I pat all over. And I’ll use a Sisley eye cream when I need it, if my skin feels dry. I like the whole apothecary thing with skincare, lots of pipettes and mixing of products.
When it comes to a tan, feel free to fake it
I am like Casper the friendly ghost – I don’t really tan, I sort of go pink. So I need help. I get tans from the wonderful Amanda Harrington who does this tan brushing thing. It’s not a spray tan, she buffs the tan into your body and it doesn’t go patchy, it doesn’t look orange, it just looks really natural. I’m really bad at winter, I can’t accept it. I love summer… that first weekend where the sun hits and everyone’s skipping down the street. Everything becomes a little more relaxed. When you’ve got a tan and freckles on your face you don’t have to think about make-up so much – everything feels a little breezier.
Find a perfect holiday fragrance (or two)
I was really inspired by Jo Malone London’s fragrance combining philosophy and so they allowed me to create my own bespoke combination, Poptastic. The Orange Blossom and Tuberose Angelica colognes are my two absolute favourites and definitely the fragrances I’d take on a summer holiday with me. I wore Orange Blossom on my wedding day so it still gives me butterflies, and Tuberose Angelica is kind of sexy and grown up. Wearing one in the day and one at night feels fun. I’m a mist person when it comes to application. I get out of the bath, do a misting spritz around the room and kind of boogie in it. A light dusting and then out of the door.
Find swimwear you really love
My swimwear collection is kind of bonkers. I think I’m a part-time mermaid – but a goofy one. I love Solid and Striped, I did a collaboration with them a while back, and I also like Zimmerman and Mara Hoffman. The key is finding a bikini that doesn’t go right up your bottom – I’m not that person that wafts into the sea and emerges beautifully. If you can have everything in place and not a nipple hanging out then you’ve got it right. You have to try and test it. Sometimes I like little Brazilian itty-bitty bikinis, or I bought a really great one recently from Perfect Moment which is high-waisted with a zip top. You feel safe. Safety first when it comes to bikinis.
I love Sisley for sun cream, Lucas Papaw Ointment, Jo Malone London Body Crèmes and Envy Organics hand cream, which is perfect for travelling. In terms of clothes it’s obviously some great swimwear, vintage Levi’s cut-off shorts, some cute Chanel sandals and some vintage T-shirts and a little Maison Michel hat. And then maybe some little summer dresses from Reformation – just things that are easy and you can throw them on over a bikini and not worry if they get wet.
Pack some little luxuries too
I love taking mini candles on holiday with me. I’m obsessed with the Wood Sage and Sea Salt one by Jo Malone London, it’s just beyond. It reminds you of salty bodies and being by the sea, and that for me is holiday.
Make sure to care for your hair
It doesn’t really get any blonder than my hair. I use a line called System Professional from Wella and they do a great silver shampoo – they call it silver shampoo but it comes out purple. I love it because it takes out any hint of yellow. They do really good products for sunshine too and a great product called Perfect Ends which is good for split ends. I braid my hair a lot in the summer – I braid it before I go to sleep so it goes wavy. But I never use a hairdryer because the heat is really bad for my hair.
Keep your pre-summer workouts varied
I do go to the gym but because of work my schedule isn’t consistent and it’s therefore hard to be consistent with exercise. But I do have a fantastic personal trainer in the UK who just screams at me for an hour and a half, which I love. I scream back at her, it’s tough love. Then if I’m in LA I do Body by Simone – it’s dancing which is hilarious because I’m like a giraffe on ice. It’s really good for toning. Sometimes I’ll do the odd SoulCycle class or reformer pilates. And I love boxing. Bodyism in Notting Hill is great. I see a guy I call gorgeous George and he’s brilliant. I go really early at like 7.30am and do a good hour, then have avocado on rye as they have a whole kitchen there.
Don’t underestimate the fun of a girls’ holiday
I’m in the midst of organising quite a fun girl’s holiday. A lot of my friends are having babies now so I’m actually really looking forward to being with girl pals and being silly and laughing a lot and playing silly games and drinking margaritas. I love the morning after, talking about the night before, borrowing each other stuff and everyone being like: “who’s got my bra?”
